about this recording:
The famous Clarinet Quintet that Mozart composed especially for his friend, clarinet virtuoso Anton Stadler, is interpreted in especially moving manner on this CD by the solo clarinetist of the Bamberger Symphoniker together with the Bamberger String Quartet (made up of members of the Bamberger Symphoniker). By way of contrast, it is followed by Gottfried Müller's Clarinet Quintet, which introduces folksong-like melodies in tonal-contrapuntal style, has the clarinet sing a Lamento in the second movement before breaking out in a bucolic round-dance in the third movement.

reviews:
"... A surprise was Müller's Clarinet Quintet, a late work from 1986. Here, all the force and austerity of earlier years have diminished. Müller has found his way to intimate cheerfulness. In the final movement, dance-like grace and the virtuoso solos of the clarinet dominate.... On the CD, this bravura chamber-music piece holds its own beside Mozart's 'Stadler Quintet'." (Nürnberger Nachrichten, 2/3 October 1999)
