In the intensive occupation with Birkenkötter’s music, “process” and “questioning” quickly emerge as the central formal components. Both are inseparably interwoven with one another. It is self-evident that as a result of this, much is also demanded of the listener in the watchfulness of understanding; he/she is taken by the hand not only by the immediately cognizable tonal sensuality and emotionality of this music, but indeed also by its discursive consequence.
