Frank Gerhardt, born at Hünfelden/Kirberg in 1967, began his musical career in Frankfurt. After piano and harpsichord studies at Dr. Hoch’s Conservatory, music theory and composition studies followed at the same institute with C. Kühnl. Frank Gerhardt then went to the Frankfurt College of Music and Interpretive Arts, where from 1994-1999 he continued his composition studies with Hans Zender, and since 2000 he himself teaches as assistant professor of music theory. For his compositions, Frank Gerhardt has received various prizes and scholarships, including the Hessian Composition Prize in 1998. In 2000-2001 he was a fellow of the International Artists’ House Villa Concordia, and then fellow of the Berlin Academy of the Arts. This was followed in 2003 by a sojourn in the German Study Center, Venice.
