| about this recording: Now I have quite some work ahead. – By Sunday next week, my opera must
be set to harmony – otherwise someone else will beat me to it – and
will have the benefit instead of me, Mozart wrote to
his father on July 20, 1782. Arrangements were business as
usual, and if the number of arrangements is any indication of a composer’
or a work’s popularity, then Mozart already held the top position at
that time. Arrangement for two flutes were particularly attractive. For
example, the Magic Flute “arrangée pour deux flûtes” was published
more than a dozen times by different publishing houses everywhere in
Europe in the years following the premiere, some edited anonymously,
some arranged by renowned composers, strangely enough some of them in
identical versions but with different names. Munich
flautists Elisabeth Weinzierl and Edmund Wächter have been performing
in concerts in many European countries as well as the USA for three
decades. In addition to solo and chamber musical works for one flute,
they present compositions for two flutes with or without accompaniment
as their specialty. |
