about this recording:
The songs of the highly talented Fanny Hensel-Mendelssohn are only gradually becoming known to the general public. Some of the songs are to be heard for the first time on CD in these interpretations by Barbara Schlick and Aloysia Assenbaum, the manuscripts containing the music having just recently been woken from their long sleep in the archives. Fanny Hensel-Mendelssohn - of whom Charles Gounod said: "As a composer, she possessed a rare talent" - appears to today's listener as a musician of a caliber equal to her brother, in her harmonic daring sometimes even surpassing him.

reviews:
"In addition to the very informative and well-researched CD booklet, the interpretation of the works is very successful. The internationally renowned soprano Barbara Schlick has a very large range of expressive possibilities at her disposal, and is skillfully and sensitively accompanied on the fortepiano by Aloysia Assenbaum. Together they awaken the passionate and often dramatic music of Fanny Hensel to new life after a long silence." (Frau und Musik 1/1998)
