| about this recording: What little we know about Adam von Fulda’s
biography is exasperatingly meager and quickly told: He was probably
born around 1445 in Fulda, entered the services of Prince-Elector
Frederick the Wise of Saxony in 1490, and later became court composer
and Kapellmeister in Torgau. By 1502 he was teaching at the university
in Wittenberg, where he died of the pest in 1505. It is however a fact
that Adam has gone down in musical history as the
German composer of the waning fifteenth century, even though his oeuvre
is actually relatively slim. The
vocal quartet Stimmwerck was founded in Munich in 2001 with the goal of
presenting the composers of the Renaissance to new audiences. The name
is derived from the designation for a group of like instruments, as it
is used, among other places, in Michael Praetorius´Syntagma Musicum. |
