| about this recording: Samuel Fehlstedt’s Jonah is considered to be the first oratorio from the Carribean, and is presented here for the first time on CD. With its English text, the music stands in tradition of Handel and again and again displays, besides the late-Baroque idiom, charming exotic effects that make the work, in the orchestration by Manfredo Zimmermann, into a surprising listening experience. The Coronation Te Deum by Antonio Salieri is also seldom performed – because of missing performance material – and until now never recorded on CD. Charming at the beginning of the CD: a small sacred work by the thirteen-year-old Mozart. |
