The instrumental music of the Count Harrach
Family Collection is found in four volumes that were indiscriminately
bound together, largely without title pages, at the end of the
nineteenth century. Besides several anonymous composers, who with time
may yet be identified, there are especially two musicians whose presence
is a sensation: Francesco Alborea and Angelo Ragazzi.
Among the music discovered in Schloss Rohrau are also two volumes written in tablature. The tablatures, most of the works are by Silvius Leopold Weiss. In the future, these tablatures will represent the third main source of Weiss’ lute music, beside the two Weiss manuscripts in London and Dresden known until now. Since they contain pieces from the early creative period, they close a gap, as it were, in our knowledge of Weiss’ oeuvre.
